RustV2 tutorial video

This video walks through a lot of RustV2 mechanics. Use the written sections below as a quick reference.

Starter checklist

  1. Use /map to learn the world and find landmarks.
  2. Gather wood from log piles. Cutting trees works, but gives fewer resources.
  3. Gather sulfur, iron, and coal from ore piles. Smelt iron ore in a furnace.
  4. Craft from a workbench or crafting table. Inventory crafting is not the normal path.
  5. Build your first base away from other players' blocks.
  6. Use schematics to unlock unknown items in your crafting table.

Protection mode

  • You cannot damage other players while protected.
  • If a player kills you, you do not lose items.
  • If mobs or other causes kill you, hotbar and armor items stay protected.
  • You cannot pick up loot from recently killed players.
  • You cannot enter boss fights or the enderworld.
  • Use the protected time to collect resources, learn routes, and set a spawn bed.

Temporary passwords

Do not reuse your real login password. Temporary passwords should be unique and not easy to guess.

Bases

Building and raiding basics

Main rule: C4 cannot blow downward unless the target blocks are on top of natural resources such as grass, dirt, or sand.

Block ownership

  • Your blocks can be destroyed by you, by valid remover use, or by C4 when the block is raid-eligible.
  • Players can use /rm near their older blocks to remove newer blocks placed too close.
  • Removal range is 2 blocks for Survivor, 3 for Premium, and 4 for Platinum.
  • Most reinforced blocks are destroyed when you manually break them.

Doors and tiers

  • Iron Doors cannot be destroyed by explosives.
  • Wood Doors and Trap Doors can be destroyed by explosives.
  • Doors are auto-protected against other players.
  • You can vault over a door if there is a one-block gap above it: jump and right-click the door.

Block durability

  • Wood, bullet-proof glass, and many misc blocks start at 1 C4.
  • Stonebrick starts at 2 C4.
  • Upgrades add C4 resistance: reinforced, iron-plated, titanium-reinforced, and titanium-plated.
  • Iron Doors are treated separately and are not a C4 target.

TNT terrain tools

TNT is mainly for shaping natural terrain around a base, not for raiding player blocks.

ModeBest useNotes
Destroy CaveExpand rooms or tunnels.Place TNT higher on a wall for a wider result.
Destroy WallFlatten terrain or carve a straight path.Usually the most efficient mode for walkways.
Destroy TreeRemove standard trees.Very large or connected trees may fail.
  • Place TNT, click it, choose a mode, then review the highlighted blocks.
  • Break the TNT during the countdown if the selected area is wrong.
  • If TNT fails to highlight blocks, needed chunks may not be loaded.
  • The target area must be raid-eligible for TNT to work.
04
Team play

Factions

Claims and members

  • Create a faction with /f create <name>.
  • Place a Faction Block where you want the main claim.
  • Expand by crafting and placing more faction blocks in unclaimed chunks.
  • Larger claims allow more players to be invited.
  • Higher faction power allows more allies.

Perks and raiding

  • Faction perk points come from events such as Strongholds and tournaments.
  • Spend them with /f perks.
  • Allied factions show dark green and can raid or play events with you.
  • If a main Faction Block is destroyed, turrets can become hostile to everyone nearby.
05
PvP and PvE

Combat, guns, and armor

Armor

  • The sword icon by a player's name and on the scoreboard shows combined armor level.
  • The tablist is sorted by armor level, with stronger sets higher up.
  • Projectile protection matters most against bullets. Normal protection still helps.
  • Kevlar is the strongest general armor. Leather can be good, but has lower base defense.
  • Kevlar Vests have Kevlar stats, but cannot be repaired.

Special armor

  • Ghillie armor hides your name while sneaking and can hide you from anti-ESP checks when not visible.
  • Taking damage breaks ghillie stealth for a short time.
  • Legendary ghillie pieces with Ender Vanish let a full ghillie set go invisible by sneaking.
  • Anti-radiation armor reduces radiation by 25% per piece.
  • A full anti-radiation set blocks regular radiation, but not critical levels.

Gun notes

  • AA-12 is a close-range automatic shotgun.
  • AK47 is the most straightforward all-around gun.
  • ACR and L8 are high-fire-rate guns for medium-range combos.
  • Snipers reward distance and headshots. Left-click to zoom in.
  • UZI and P90 are high-hit-rate close-range guns.
  • Heavy LMG accuracy drops when jumping.

FairPlay balance

  • FairPlay teams are not capped by size.
  • Larger teams deal reduced damage to smaller teams during uneven fights.
  • Larger teams receive stronger friendly-fire penalties.
  • Ally hits from heavily outnumbering teams can briefly slow the teammate who was hit.
  • Grapple damage follows FairPlay rules when the owner is already in a FairPlay fight.
  • Damage from players outside the fight is heavily reduced.

Critical hits

  • Landing shots without missing raises your crit threshold.
  • Switching between guns efficiently also raises your crit threshold.
  • At 100%, each hit deals increased damage.
  • Green particles and hit-marker sounds indicate critical hits.
Water increases damage taken. Anti-radiation pills reduce radiation over time. Anvils repair tools and weapons. Nitrogen Guns can slow enemies and delay Iron Door closing.

Progression

Loot, zones, and bosses

Loot sources

  • Chests can contain schematics, low-tier items, and rare drops.
  • Zombies are basic early loot and can rarely drop weapons.
  • Bandits drop Kevlar, guns, ammo, and PvP supplies.
  • Talons at the ocean platform drop PvP gear more often and can drop raid keys.
  • Outcasts at the Nuclear Power Plant can drop unique armor and the plasma rifle.
  • Random dungeons can contain mobs, mini-bosses, and useful loot.

The Zone

  • The Zone is a large irradiated city with high-value loot.
  • Enter through the train station tunnels.
  • Bring anti-radiation pills or anti-radiation armor.
  • Radiation decreases by using pills or waiting for effects to wear off.
